Container Project Begins

We have started to plan the organizing, packing and shipping of a cargo container to MICS. This is a HUGE project. It will involve the help of many people and many hours of work collecting and packing donated items. It will also involve several fundraisers to collect the needed funds for the shipment of the cargo container.

There are so many needs at MICS. It is extremely difficult to get many of the items that are essential to running a quality school. this container will allow us to send many of these items that they can not get over there.

The project was kicked off by Cheryl Timmerman and Rita Jansen of St. Rose, IL. They organized a scavenger hunt to raise money for the container and collect some of the needed items (link to news paper story). This is the 4th scavenger hunt they have organized. Money raised from previous events went toward scholarhips and the new Toyota for the school. Thanks Cheryl and Rita for your commitement and support to the school and children of MICS!!

Toyota NewsFlash – Keys Arrive!

First term is over and we were able to go to Lusaka for Easter. Nic took us to Lusaka in his trusty Nissan Patrol and we spent time relaxing with the Bolthouse family. Thanks so much to all of them!!!
Good News…..the KEYS to the Toyota Landcruiser have arrived in Lusaka and are at the Flying Mission Airstrip Office. We know that for sure as I actually held the keys in my hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gil took the picture as proof!!
They say there must be a vehicle some place that fits the keys!!?!??!!?!???
Keep praying for a smooth sail….. easy entrance at the border ………and favor with the customs agents!!
WE ARE EXCITED!!!! THIS COULD REALLY HAPPEN THIS YEAR!!!…..

Today was the end of the year staff party at MICS…. pizza lunch! (special request of the teachers..they love pizza!!)

Each staff member was then given a Love Bag. It was chucked full of goodies!!!
Their assignment was to select items for themselves that they liked and could use…….. then the love gift had to be shared. They are checking out family members, neighbors, village people, hospital patients anyone they can find in need and will share something from the Love Bag with them…… just like the GIFT OF JESUS goes on and on and on!

The items they are sharing came from all of you…. for that we say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
We so appreciate all the donations given to MICS. They have arrived in containers, with visitors and in volunteers suitcases and some were even squeezed into our luggage when we returned last January.

Blessing Come In All Shapes & Sizes

Recently a group of volunteers….16 in total…. came to Macha. They are from I-TEC,a volunteer group, based in Pennsylvania, that sends out teams all over the world to help with electricity problems. As you know, a big need for us here…. and they felt we qualified! We have been so blessed as different members of the team have been here for about 6 weeks now helping in many many ways!

One might think that just having this team come to help would be a big enough blessing for MICS…. and actually it would have been amazing just in itself. We are so grateful to all that worked so hard to help and for that we say THANKS!!

BUT…… as God just keeps pouring out the blessings for us all here we were amazed at the gift the ream brought.
First we thought what would be better???? a suitcase with balls and sports equipment!!!! Then we thought what could be better than a young man named Chris that will teach us how to use the equipment, especially his favorite sport – basketball???? Then we were truly surprised when he showed us the basketball backboard, hoop and net already installed in the most creative spot and ready for us to use!!!!!! The men had spent their Saturday installing it on a concrete pad … that some day will be a house(-: But ,for now is our perfect little MICS court.

Again we say thanks for blessing us in such a HUGE way!!

The last two girls in God’s Army for MICS arrived from the Netherlands this week!!

PTL they arrived safely and enjoyed a warm welcome from the rest of the team, boarding students, and best of all, the MICS students and teachers.

We are so happy that they are here. They round out the team in a very special way………13 in all!!!!

“Thumbody” Special

MICS students are finding out that they are “THUMBODY” SPECIAL………made by God!!

Finger painted thumb prints and sidewalk chalk drawings of themselves helped them to see how they have been uniquely and specially created by God.

The School – MICS

MICS (Macha Innovative Christian School) was created in 2004. The area of Macha had no quality elementary school for the children of the region. In addition, there were numerous orphaned and abandoned children who needed a place to call home.

Gil and Ronda Krause

Gil and Ronda have been living in Africa for the past 14 years. Over 5 years ago, they moved to the remote village of Macha, Zambia. They are located more than 2 hours from the closest paved road and 5 hours from a major city. Electricity and water are not readily available for them, so needless to say, life is always an adventure in Macha.

Life Is Always An adventure

They moved to Macha to start MICS (Macha Innovative Christian School). There was a desperate need for a quality elementary school for the local children and the many orphans in Macha. It has been 5 years now, and they have more than 70 students. God has done many amazing things in Macha. We are excited to see what will happen next!

This website will allow Gil and Ronda to keep everyone informed and up to date on all the events in Macha.

MICS computer lab opens today in new building!

We are so excited to report that the MICS computer lab opened for instruction today. The team of computer teachers had fifteen computers up and running for the occasion. With the fifteen computers up and running the classes can come all at one time and even the teachers can have a computer to learn on with their class.

MICS has two new computer teachers this year. Beverly Chisanza and Justin Milolandu completed the computer course offered at LITA last year and thus qualified to be a computer teacher in training at MICS. We are very happy to have them working with the students. LITA is the adult computer school that Jon Backens helped to start and Nic Novelly taught at last year. Both guys are from Virginia(-: Their program really helped MICS as we found it difficult to find teachers that had computer training. We are blessed to have them and thankful for their help as the students have their daily computer lessons.
